There are many reasons that formal, written Policies and Procedures are critical for a business. Attorneys will tell you that it is vital to have (and to follow) well-established employment policies and procedures to protect a business against liabilities. Any quality management programs require well-documented and repeatable policies and procedures. Any requirement that may be audited typically requires a set of policies and procedures.
I have extensive experience developing different kinds of policies and procedures. In many cases, I have been able to write the policy and procedure in areas where I am a subject expert. In other cases, I have worked with a subject matter expert to document the appropriate policy and procedure. In either case, a good policy and procedure typically combines clear language with with a standard format and informative graphics and pictures. The goal is to provide a new employee with all the information they need to understand policies and to follow the proper procedure.
